Gaborone City Marathon Cancelled

The Gaborone City Marathon (GCM), scheduled for April 10, 2011, has been cancelled. The cancellation of the event, which offers 42 km, 10 km and 4 km Fun Run / Walk, is the direct result of budgetary constraints that have occurred at the last minute which is beyond our control and have negated the financial and logistical requirements to host an event of the scale planned.

The event, which in its inaugural year in 2010 raised P150, 000 for official charities in Botswana, will be re-launched in 2012.

Through its membership of the Association of Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), our goal is to ensure a reputation for high organizational standards.

The GCM regrets these developments and wishes to thank everyone who supported this effort including our sponsors, the running community and the authorities.

We are confident that we will be able to have a hugely successful marathon next year. The Gaborone City Marathon remains committed to staging an absolutely first class event for the runners, sponsors and the country in 2012.

Registration received for Gaborone City Marathon 2011 will remain valid for Gaborone City Marathon 2012.

Thank you for your understanding.
